a dangerous method = dangerously pointless

We went to see A Dangerous Method at the Charles Theater over the weekend. It wasn’t very good – while it could have been really interesting, the movie never developed any of its ideas completely or saw anything through. Subplots were uncovered then dropped, while other things came from nowhere and then disappeared just as quickly. It was hard to figure out just what the point was – is it about the feud between Freud and Jung? Is it about the transition from mental patient to psychiatrist? Is it about the relationship between Jung and one of his patients? Is it about anything? Our viewing experience is depicted below:
